Ezine or Newsletter, Why They’re Important

What is an Ezine?

An Ezine is another name for Newsletter, and it’s short for Electronic Magazine. It’s the same as a traditional newsletter except it’s always delivered via email rather than through direct mail.

Why is an Ezine important?

Sending out a regular ezine will let you keep in touch with your email list.  Many email lists are built over months of encouraging people to enter their name and email for a free gift or free training, and to lose touch with them would be the same as not having them on your list at all.  A regular Ezine or Newsletter keeps you in front of the people who are interested in what you have, and helps remind them about you the next time they are in the market for what you offer.  In short, having a regular ezine will bring you income, a lot more income.

Don’t I need a website before I can have an Ezine?

No, you don’t need a website first before sending out an ezine.  You do need an auto responder service, however, to automate sending out your ezine to a list that you’ve built.  An autoresponder is a scheduled email that gets sent out to a list of people on a specified day.  Some autoresponder services include aweber, 1shoppingcart, or Infusionsoft.  You can even enter lots of business cards from a shoebox onto an excel spreadsheet (as long as you have permission from the business card owner) and import them into a system like these to automatically send them an ezine.

A common practice is to have a single page online called a landing page that offers a free gift in exchange for a person’s name and email.  This can be made long before a business owner has a website.   At EEK! I Need a Geek! we call that type of page a Gifts Page.

In my next blog post, I’ll write about what sections to include in an ezine.
