How to blog
There are many techniques and strategies that can be used to make your blogging efforts more effective. In another post about How to Blog I talked about using keywords to make your blogging effective. This post talks about using backlinks to make your SEO efforts much more effective. Both techniques are needed to have good search engine optimization.
Get backlinks from your friends blogs
One of the best benefits of being in a blogging group even more than the backlinks is the accountability of blogging regularly. But you can get many links to your site as well. The downside of this method is that the links coming to your site from these places are likely to be from low ranking sites, as most personal blogs/websites are ranked a 0 or a 1 on a scale from 0 to 10.
Get backlinks from Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Linked In
The reason that it’s important to get links to your website from places like the social media sites is because of how high these sites are ranked. Facebook is the #2 site in the US, and Youtube is #3 (#1 is Google). Twitter and Linked In are also in the top ten sites, which will give very strong links to your website.
Get backlinks from article directories or press releases
Not only are social media sites great for getting backlinks from due to their high page rank, but article directories and press release companies can also be very highly ranked. For instance, ezinearticles has a page rank of 6 while prweb has a page rank of 7.
Get backlinks from high ranking blogs
The way to get back links from high ranking blogs is to leave comments on them. Simple. How do you find these blogs that rank a 4, 5, or even 6 (compared to probably most of your friends blogs which may rank a 0 or a 1 at most). Likewise simple – you google for them. Enter “top 100 blogs about xyz” replacing the last word with whatever you’re writing about or what your business is. There are reviews out for these types of questions and you’ll get results from your search of sites that list the top ranking blogs in your subject. Visit these blogs and leave some comments.
The diagram to the right represents getting backlinks to your website from all of these sources, showing why we should be doing these different types of marketing. Practicing these types of marketing is what helps us develop a very strong online presence. Having a strong online presence is what brings people to our website when they search for what we offer. This is exactly why I not only help create people’s websites and landing pages, but I help show them how to do these types of marketing that will create that strong online presence, driving targeted traffic to your website.
